Let's celebrate Equinox

It’s spring equinox today. Daytime and nighttime are exactly the same length.
This day marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and there are celebrations around the world to welcome longer days and springtime, like the Persian Nowruz or the Japanese Shunbun no Hi.
There are signs of ancient cultures, showing that they cared a great deal for these solar festivals as well. The Pyramid of Kukulkan at the ruins of Chichen Itza, the ancient Maya city in Mexico for example, is built in a way that at the day of spring equinox, the sun creates shadows that resemble a snake descending the stairs of it until it merges with a large serpent head sculpture.

Fascinated by these solar festivals, I made them a theme for the recording of my debut solo album Weltmaschine. It was recorded throughout a whole year. The starting point of the project was the first recording on summer solstice in 2020: The sound of the river Trieb. At the following autumn equinox, the shores of the meditaranean sea were recorded and on winter solstice and spring equinox, whole improvised performances found their way to the album. It was released on Summer solstice 2021, a full circle's travel of the earth around the sun after the starting of its creation.

Hear all these sounds and different mood qualities of these milestones the earth and sun created on their dance throughout the year on Weltmaschine.

Weltmaschine

Recorded on vintage synthesizers, electric pianos and Hammond Organ in Weltklang Tonstudio Plauen and with Nils Frahms Pianos and Mellotron in his studio in Funkhaus Berlin, this instrumental album brings you ambient moods, evocative improvisations and explosive moments alike. The songs were mixed in Funkhaus by Nils Frahms personal engineer Antonio Pulli and mastered in England by Mastering expert Tim Oliver of Peter Gabriels Real World Studios - all to bring out the best possible sound.
